The Traditions of Karzh.
My dear students,
What I'm asking you is to do is a new type of task called "webquest". It is based on a series of activities that you can do with your computer, laptop, tablet... Say goodbye to long explanations and boring blackboards, because we will enter an epic world of sword, sorcery and computers!
This webquest is based on a fantasy short story called "The Traditions of Karzh" by Paula Volsy. It is included in an anthology called Songs of the Dying Earth, edited by George R.R. Martin (the writer of Game of Thrones!) and Gardner Dozois, made in honor of Jack Vance, the original creator of the Dying Earth.
You are going to be the main characters with Farnol, a young man of 18 years old (a bit older than you, but he shares your same hobbies: music, theatre -there's no cinemas on the Dying Earth-, going out with friends...etc.) who is going to be...
... punished by his uncle!!!
Let's say that Farnol may appear to be a bit lazy to his uncle -since he doesn't learn magic- but you will discover the truth...
The activities are related with fantasy literature themes: battling monsters, visiting marvelous and exotic places, meeting old clumsy wizards... they will ask you to be creative, to write your own stories, to become brave, new heroes.
The path is just in front of you. The only thing you need is to move the mouse up and navigate through the sections. First of all, read the Task section to discover what do you have to do. Then, go to the Process section, there you have your heroic quests. Finally, you can take a look at the Resources and Evaluation sections, they will provide you with more information.
